How to buy on myfans from outside Japan
myfans is a Japanese fan-club subscription platform, and many Japanese creators post their full-length content only there. This page walks through the points where overseas buyers get stuck (language, phone verification, non-Japanese cards, choosing a plan, canceling), using only what the official myfans help center (English) says. Checked on October 22, 2026.
1. Sign up (free)
Registration is free; you are charged only when you view a creator's paid content. The official help says foreigners can register because credit card payment is supported. After signing up you can switch the interface to English, so browsing and checkout are in English from there.
Age limit: you must be 18 or older, and high school students cannot use the service even at 18.
2. Phone number verification (required before paying)
For security, myfans requires phone number verification, and you cannot make a payment until it is done. The procedure is:
- On the verification screen, enter your smartphone or mobile number and select "Get by SMS".
- A 6-digit verification code arrives by SMS. Enter it and press "Verify".
- The help notes that receiving the code by voice call is currently not available.
Two restrictions from the official help: the same number cannot verify more than one account, and numbers starting with 050 (Japanese IP phone numbers) cannot be used. The help only says "the phone number of your smartphone or cell phone" and does not state whether a non-Japanese number (+1, +65, +61 etc.) is accepted. If the SMS doesn't arrive, the listed causes are a mistyped number, a plan that can't receive SMS, spam filtering that blocks unknown senders, and network delays. The help also says that if an error appears, turn off Google Translate or any other browser translation feature and try again. If you change numbers later, re-verify from Account → Phone Number Verification → Change Phone Number.
3. Payment methods (cards issued outside Japan)
The official "Payment Method" article lists these options:
- Credit card (VISA / Mastercard / JCB) — usable for every type of purchase (plans, single posts, tips and so on). Credit, debit and prepaid cards are all accepted, but a card may be declined depending on its status.
- Paidy (pay later) — only for users with a Japanese phone number that can receive SMS. Not a realistic option from overseas.
- BitCash / atone — Japanese prepaid and pay-later services. The help does not describe using them from outside Japan. The first-month discount on creator plans does not apply with BitCash.
Paying in a foreign currency: charges are in Japanese yen (JPY), converted at the rate your card company applies at the time of settlement. myfans does not guarantee or advise on exchange rates, and your card issuer may add its own overseas settlement (foreign transaction) fee. JCB cannot be saved under "Payment Method"; it works only when checkout transfers you to an external payment system. From outside Japan, VISA or Mastercard is the simplest choice.
Add your card from "Add Card" on the "Payment Method" page. Two more notes from the help: the first-month discount is not applied to plans above a certain amount when paying by credit card, and the "Plan System" article states that a separate 5% purchase fee is added at the time of purchase, so the amount on your statement can be slightly higher than the plan price shown.
4. Single purchase vs monthly plan (and bundle discounts)
myfans sells content two ways: a single purchase of one post, and a monthly plan set up by the creator. The same post can be sold both ways, and even plan subscribers can buy a post as a single.
- Single purchase: one payment, nothing to cancel. If the creator later deletes the post, you can still watch it from your purchased-posts list (posts removed by the operator for violations are the exception). If you want one or two specific posts, this is the simplest option.
- Monthly plan: billed when you subscribe and auto-renewed on the same day of the following month (subscribe on the 31st and the next month has only 30 days → renews on the 30th; February renews on the 28th or 29th). If you want several posts or new uploads, a plan is the right fit. There is no plan-switching feature: if you subscribe to a higher plan without canceling the lower one, you pay for both.
- Bundles: subscribe to 3, 6 or 12 months at once. The official help says "a bundle costs less than paying month by month, so it is recommended if you are considering a long-term subscription." Bundles appear only on plans where the creator has set one up, the whole period is billed as one lump sum, and some payment methods cannot buy them. Our creator pages show the bundle discount rate and per-month price as of our last data pull.
- Campaign (first-month discount) plans: the discount applies to the first month only, with the regular price from month two. It is not applied a second time to the same plan and may not apply with some payment methods, so read the notice on the confirmation screen before you subscribe.
The only question you need to answer is "how many posts do I want to see?" Compare each plan's post count and price on the creator's page, then buy the single or subscribe today, while you're looking at it. Double-check the total on the subscribe screen before you confirm.
5. How to cancel auto-renewal
Plans renew automatically by default. To stop the next charge, cancel yourself by the day before the renewal date (when the previous month had 31 days and this month has 30, the renewal date is the 30th, so cancel by the 29th). The steps:
- 1Tap "Account" (bottom right)
- 2Select "Current plan"
- 3Tap "···" in the top-right corner of the plan you want to cancel
- 4Select "このプランを解約する" (Cancel this plan)
- 5Choose a reason for canceling
- 6Tick the confirmation boxes and select "Unsubscribe"
- When you cancel, you immediately lose access to that plan's posts. There is no pro-rating or refund for the rest of the month. If there's something you still want to watch, finish it first and cancel the day before renewal.
- To see your renewal date: Current plan → select the plan → "Cancel Plan"; the expiration date is shown with the monthly fee.
- Bundled plans canceled on or after November 14, 2025 (19:10 JST) remain viewable until the bundle's contract period ends. Unless you cancel, the same bundle renews automatically when it expires.
- If you re-subscribe to the same plan after canceling, you are charged again.
- You cannot delete your account while subscribed to a plan. Card details on a deleted account are deleted.
6. When your card is declined
If your card works everywhere else but myfans shows "No available card is registered," the official help says certain cards may be refused due to the policies of the payment processor myfans works with, and in that case you need to use a different card. myfans cannot say which cards will or won't work, as that is entirely the processor's decision. If a card stops working and a renewal date arrives, the renewal fails and the plan is canceled (you get an automatic email).
- Try a card from a different network (VISA ↔ Mastercard)
- Check in your card issuer's app that international / online transactions aren't blocked — this is a general tip, not official myfans guidance
- Turn off browser translation and try again
- Make sure phone number verification is complete
- If a payment is still outstanding, myfans shows a popup and restricts some features until you update your payment details and complete the payment, or cancel the affected plan
